A Unique Experience for Namibia’s Largest Wildlife Haven
We haven’t made it to the new Sky Boma in Etosha yet, but it’s already near the top of our list for our next Namibia trip. Anyone who’s spent time self driving through Etosha will know that evenings in the park have a certain magic. The heat eases, the colours soften, and the silhouettes of wildlife start to drift toward the waterholes. It’s that quiet, reflective moment at the end of a day’s overlanding when you really feel the wildness of the place. So when we heard about a dedicated space designed simply to enjoy that time of day, it immediately caught our attention.

From what we’ve gathered, the Sky Boma seems to get the balance just right. An elevated deck with open views, comfortable seating, and nothing to distract from the landscape itself. No flashy additions, no forced luxury, just a thoughtful spot where travellers can sit with a cool drink, stretch their legs after hours on gravel roads, and take in the astonishing sense of space that Etosha is known for. The eight meter high dining area overlooks the Etosha landscape and we have a feeling the star of the show will be the sunset as you gaze toward the horizon, waiting to see what might appear from the bush.
By design, the Sky Boma seems to respect the environment instead of overwhelming it. It adds to the experience without taking away from the raw character of the park, doing a good job of blending into it’s surrounding as much as an eight meter tall man-made structure can.

Now, as for overlanders who often, but not always, travel on a relatively modest budget, this experience would most likely be classed as a ‘treat’ to enhance any self drive trip through Namibia. We always recommend for longer trips that, if money allows, it’s worth splurging on at least one of your stopovers, not necessarily because you will need to ‘break’ from camp sites but because you’ll experience a different side of African travel within your itinerary. The Sky Boma experience is exclusive to guests of Mokuti lodge and nightly rates here start from around £215pppn, not a small amount of change but also a fairly reasonable cost compared to many luxury safari lodges. Maybe the chance to immerse yourself in some luxury and access this rather unique experience, makes this the perfect addition to your trip of you do wish to indulge.

If you’re planning a Drive Africa route through Etosha, we can most definitely incorporate a stay at Mokuti and a dining experience at the Sky Boma. We feel this is one of those spots that will soon become a favourite for self drive travellers, a peaceful pause between the dust of the day and the calm of the African night. We’re already looking forward to making it one of our first stops next time we pass through those familiar park gates.
